After reading Susan Gilroys selection on interrogating texts I believe that my annotations and active reading can be improved. The first thing that I thought was very interesting was how she says to put down your highlighter. I have always used highlighter but I also write comments to go with what I am highlighting. I believe that she means that simply highlighting can get confusing. But if you are to add comments to your highlight then it can be very useful.

When I annotate I do many of the things that she describes in her selection. I write in the margins and use symbols for main ideas, I also re write the text in my own words if I feel the need. All these skills are skills that I have learned this year and these have definitely help me become more successful when analyzing a text. Something I discovered about asking questions is that I tend to ask a lot of questions in the beginning and then they are answered throughout the text.
